The TRC-funded project
Impact of Tourism Development on Coastal Communities in Oman: Analysis of Local Perceptions” is a two-year interdisciplinary research initiative examining how tourism development affects the environmental, socio-cultural, and economic well-being of coastal communities.
Coastal regions in Oman play a vital role in national identity, livelihoods, and marine ecosystems. Rapid tourism expansion offers economic opportunities but also introduces complex challenges including environmental degradation, cultural transformation, and unequal distribution of benefits. This project investigates these dynamics through large-scale surveys, field research, and comparative international study in Brighton in the United Kingdom.

Oman felt completely safe and incredibly peaceful. It offered the time and space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with nature and oneself. We had no hesitation exploring independently.
